The Weare Master Plan Subcommittee met June 3, 2026, to review a draft introduction and the subcommittee's proposed vision statements for the town's master plan update. The group approved prior meeting minutes, agreed to retain the 2005 master plan as an appendix, and set June 24 as the deadline for edits before delivering a compiled draft to the Planning Board.
The chair said the draft introduction was developed from a public questionnaire and references state statutory requirements, and described the update as an in-house effort designed to "guide the growth and development of the town of Weare over the next decade." The committee discussed whether to label the document an "update" or a "new" master plan and concluded it is more appropriately termed an update because the work was completed without an external consulting firm.
Committee member S2 read the five vision statements aloud during the meeting, including a pledge to "preserve [Weare's] rural character by protecting its natural assets" and to be "a fiscally responsible town committed to minimizing residents' tax burden through balanced spending and thoughtful economic growth." Members indicated those statements reflected the results of the public survey and required no substantive changes at the subcommittee level.
The group resolved to keep the 2005 master plan archived and linked as an appendix to the new document rather than embedding the older text. Members agreed the final draft will include a clear change log and an appendix reference to the previous plan.
On routine business the subcommittee approved the April 1 and May 6 meeting minutes; both motions passed with the members present voting in favor. The chair and committee member divided reformatting and editing tasks, discussed using a shared collaborative document for revisions, and asked a person named Salem to review changes if available. The committee set June 24 as the internal deadline for edits so the package can be prepared for a Planning Board review at the next meeting cycle.
The meeting adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
What happens next: the subcommittee will incorporate member edits, complete formatting, and present the compiled draft to the Planning Board for its review and possible approval or amendment.
