Elkton keeps fireworks at Meadow Park this year, approves Howard Street closure for Little League

The Mayor and Commissioners decided on May 20, 2026 to keep the town's fireworks launch at the same location used last year (Meadow Park/John P. Stanley Park) for this year's event; officials said logistical constraints prevented moving the launch to Evans McKinney Park this year. Mary Magaw, Director of Parks and Recreation, explained that shifting the launch now would not allow enough time to coordinate music and vendors. Town officials said they plan to return to the pre-COVID launch location at Evans McKinney Park beginning next year.

The Board approved a request from the Little League to close Howard Street for a family fun day on Saturday, June 6, 2026. The closure passed on a motion by Commissioner Charles H. Givens Sr., seconded by Commissioner Earl M. Piner Sr., and was approved by all present.

Other local items: Mayor Alt announced that Jeanne Minner, the Director of Planning, will retire effective June 30, 2026. Commissioner Charles H. Givens Sr. noted Elkton High School's awards ceremony later that evening, including two $1,000 Mayor and Commissioners Scholarship awards. Angelina Battaglia, executive administrator of the Elkton Alliance, thanked volunteers from a recent car show and announced the Memorial Day Parade scheduled for May 25, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. The meeting adjourned at 12:18 p.m.
