The Mayor and Commissioners of the Town of Elkton adopted Ordinance 2-2026, the FY 2027 budget, at their May 20, 2026 meeting. Town Administrator Lewis H. George Jr. presented the budget and noted that "there are no changes to the real property or business personal property tax rates." The ordinance was approved on a motion by Commissioner Charles H. Givens Sr., seconded by Commissioner Robert M. Massimiano, and was approved by all members present.
Why it matters: The budget establishes town spending priorities and departmental allocations for the coming fiscal year; retaining the current tax rates means revenue assumptions tied to property and business personal property will remain consistent with prior forecasts.
What happened: After the presentation by the Town Administrator, Commissioners asked no public questions recorded in the minutes and moved directly to a vote. Mayor Robert J. Alt earlier praised the clarity of the financial presentation, saying he "strongly approves of the account balances provided as part of the financial report," which officials said made the town's finances easier to understand.
Next steps: The ordinance was adopted at the meeting and will be implemented by town staff under the supervision of the Town Administrator and relevant department directors. No follow-up vote was recorded at this meeting.
