Port Royal launches public project portal and GIS map on town website

Town planning staff demonstrated a new public project portal at the June 10 meeting that maps private development and capital projects and is now live on the town website.
"It's live right now," said Noah Kreps, who walked council through the portal’s navigation (portroyal.org → Government → Planning → Project Portal). The portal shows two columns — private development and capital projects — and uses color codes to denote project status: red for in review, green for permit issued, orange for under construction and blue for completed projects that remain visible for a set archival period.
Kreps showed how users can click a list entry to zoom to a parcel, view a project narrative, and open plan thumbnails. He said the portal will eventually be more prominent on the main site and that staff will schedule regular check-ins with the portal vendor and the town’s GIS analyst to keep project statuses current.
Council members commended the simple design and accessibility of the portal, noting it will help staff respond to public inquiries about development activity. Kreps said archived projects will remain accessible for a limited period and staff will keep a development-report spreadsheet in parallel.
