Representatives of the Historic Port Royal Foundation told the Town of Fort Bridal council on March 4 that they plan to hold a one-mile evening run called the Port Royal Mile on Sept. 12 and are coordinating related marketing and visitor outreach.
The presenter described a coastal-themed one-mile route along Paris Avenue with staggered heats (family/kids, under-40, 40-and-over, and a team event) to limit disruption. "This is gonna be on September 12," the presenter said. Organizers plan to use RunSignUp for registration and aim to set a $25 entry fee; they said approximately 300 runners would allow them to break even with additional sponsor support.
Council members asked about police coordination and sign-up timing; the presenter said the deputy chief would lead traffic control and that organizers expected to have the RunSignUp page live in the next few weeks. The foundation also discussed sponsorship opportunities (quarter-mile markers or business-team awards) and parking options, including elementary-school overflow if attendance grows.
Separately, presenters described outreach to cruise-ship operators to provide curated excursions for passengers — brewery tours, wellness/spa segments, arts classes, fishing and sunset trips, and a condensed history presentation — and said trifold maps and excursion listings will be carried on the ships. The presenter said some visitors have already come to the museum as a result of ship-borne maps.
The foundation asked for council guidance and offered to adjust plans based on local input. The council expressed support and appreciation for the foundation’s work on events and visitor outreach.
