Kathy Reyes, president of the Littleton Elementary School District Governing Board, announced during the board's December 10 meeting that she will not run for re-election after 28 years of service.
"This is my last time I will be sitting in this seat," Reyes said, and she told the board she made the decision months ago. She cited deep family ties to district schools and said she intends to continue advocating for public education as she begins work in the governor's office on education issues.

Dr. Cole, speaking during remarks recognizing Reyes, said her tenure 'has exemplified integrity' and consistent prioritization of student achievement and fairness. Colleagues noted Reyes asked for no plaques or formal fanfare; schools nonetheless presented a small gift and staff offered congratulations.
Reyes used her remarks to describe the demands of board service and to urge continued focus on students: "It's always about students," she said, describing difficult decisions the board faces and expressing appreciation for the community's support over her years of service.
No formal board action was required for Reyes's announcement. The board continued the agenda after recognition and will take up standard procedures for transitions and vacancies in future meetings.
