Louisa County audit shows fund-balance dip after Local Option Sales Tax transfer, county auditor says

Brian Unsen, an auditor with Eide Bailly, told the Louisa County Board of Supervisors during its Jan. 7 meeting that the FY24 financial audit showed a decrease in the county’s fund balance and linked that drop to a Local Option Sales Tax transfer. "The decrease in fund balance is due to the Local Option Sales Tax transfer," Unsen said. Chair Shawn Maine said that transfer had been expected.
The audit review was presented as part of the board’s regular session. Unsen did not recommend any immediate corrective actions in the minutes; the board recorded the audit discussion and moved on to other agenda items. The audit firm Eide Bailly is listed in the claims as having charged $26,500 for auditing services during the period.
The board took no separate vote on audit findings beyond reviewing the report during the meeting. The session continued with public input and routine business items including payroll adjustments and claims approval.
