Houston parks board approves minutes; spring soccer draws 148 sign-ups, pool item heads to City Council

HOUSTON — The Houston Parks and Recreation Park Board met Feb. 19 at the Houston Pool Community Room and approved the January meeting minutes. President Rachel Choate called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m., and the board voted unanimously to adopt the minutes as written after Jeff Richardson moved approval and Sheena Postlewait seconded.
Board members reviewed program scheduling details and participation numbers for upcoming seasons. The adult 5-on-5 league was rescheduled twice because of conflicts with school schedules and is now set to begin March 8. The board reported spring youth soccer has 148 registrants and said volunteer coaches are still needed. Flag football enrollment stands at 61, with coaching coverage adequate but some age groups short on players.
The board also discussed a pool-related agenda item and noted that the City Council was scheduled to vote on that matter later that evening; the minutes record only that the council vote was planned, not its outcome. Separately, Adam Vandiver said he would coordinate sign options with Robbie Mortensen and that the board intends to unveil a new sign at a renaming event once the renaming is finalized.
Robbie Mortensen and Zack Richards were reported as attending the Missouri Recreation and Parks Association conference in Branson. Sheena Postlewait moved to adjourn the meeting, Jeff Richardson seconded, and the board adjourned at 6:23 p.m. The minutes were submitted by Amy Smith, secretary.
