Madison County Election Commission approves voter purges and inactive lists, and a counsel invoice

MADISON COUNTY — The Madison County Election Commission on Wednesday approved routine maintenance of the voter rolls and an invoice for legal counsel while conducting regular business ahead of the fall elections.
The commission voted to accept a recommended purge list for the period 06/09/2026–07/06/2026. Counts presented to the board were: District 1 — 17; District 2 — 16; District 3 — 7; District 4 — 5; District 5 — 29. Commissioner Joanne Pierce moved to accept the purge list and a colleague seconded; the motion passed by voice vote, the presiding commissioner announced.
The commission also approved a list of inactive voters for the same period. The clerk reported inactive counts including 78 in District 1, 120 in District 2, 25 in District 3 and 151 in District 5; the transcript did not record a separate line-item count for District 4. A motion to accept the inactive list passed by voice vote.
Circuit Clerk Theresa reported 194 people had changed addresses within the county since the last meeting, saying, “it shows it was a 194 people that moved within the county since the last meeting.” The clerk also confirmed work at Precinct 517 is complete and that voter-notification cards will be distributed to affected voters.
The commission took and approved a motion to accept an invoice for counsel (referred to in the meeting as Spence). The presiding commissioner called for the motion and second, and the invoice was approved by voice vote.
The body also approved previously circulated minutes after a motion from a commissioner and a second. The commission adjourned and set its next regular meeting for Aug. 12, 2026, at 9 a.m.
What happens next: staff will distribute provided notifications to affected voters and continue preparing for fall poll-worker recruitment and training.
