The Council received a recreation update saying the June 7 First Wednesday in the Park market and music event drew a large turnout of over 250 people. Councilor George Fuller updated the body on plans for the Community Action Committee–sponsored July 4 celebration.
Cemetery committee minutes reviewed at the meeting show the committee will proceed with small interior upgrades to the Huebsch Mausoleum to improve aesthetics for public use and to support small graveside services and the Wreaths Across America ceremony planned for this winter; the committee hopes for some funding from the Schoolhouse but indicated the upgrades are expected to be minor.
Council discussed riverfront operations: several riverfront spaces are opening, slips will be transferred from trade and wait lists, and inspections are scheduled for July. Members raised parking concerns for businesses near River Road and asked whether additional crossing signage might help improve safety.
Public-works updates noted patching was completed and Mayor Ben Holien asked Superintendent Stan Meier to increase routine trail and bench upkeep, including weed trimming around benches and signs. The Council also discussed a complaint about a truck and trailer on South Humboldt that blocks intersection sightlines and agreed to work with the Sheriff’s Department to have the truck and trailer moved.
Mayor Holien said he met with other municipal leaders to discuss policing options and possible collaboration with the City of Cochrane; the Council discussed alley infringement at length and agreed to continue that discussion at the next meeting.
The meeting closed after clerical motions to pay bills and adjourn; all motions were recorded as passed.
