Brodhead council approves conditional police hire, pool manager pay increase and temporary wastewater support

The Common Council unanimously approved a conditional offer to hire Kenton Beishir as a full-time police officer, raised pool manager Tyra Lehman’s hourly pay to $14.50 with retroactive pay, and hired Kyle Woodworth as a temporary wastewater fill-in at $100 per hour. A special meeting to review administrator candidates was set for July 1.
The Brodhead Common Council on June 24 approved several personnel actions to replenish staff across public safety, recreation and public works.
Chief Raupp recommended a conditional offer to Kenton Beishir to fill an open full-time police position; Raupp said the candidate has completed a background check and physical, with one remaining item. Raupp told the council the candidate resides in Janesville. Alderperson Baxter moved to approve the conditional offer; Alderperson Gritzmaker seconded, and the motion carried unanimously.
Mayor Simpson proposed increasing pool manager Tyra Lehman’s wage to $14.50 per hour and providing retroactive pay after reviewing the 2024 pay schedule and assistant-manager history. Alderperson Baxter moved to adopt the raise and retro pay, Alderperson Naramore seconded, and the motion carried.
For wastewater operations, council approved hiring Kyle Woodworth to provide temporary coverage three times a week at $100 per hour while staffing gaps remain. Simpson said Woodworth is not licensed in Wisconsin but is licensed in Illinois and that MSA will sign off on required laboratory testing; Woodworth’s work is intended to support the current operator Jason and allow him some time off. Baxter moved to hire Woodworth; Burkhalter seconded, and the motion carried unanimously.
The council also scheduled a special meeting for Tuesday, July 1 at 6:00 p.m. to review city administrator applicants and consider an ordinance and appointment for Pool & Rec Director. The meeting adjourned at 7:17 p.m.
