Administration said the City has four areas affected by the change (represented by five signs on maps provided to council) and that posted speed remains enforceable until signs are changed. Council members discussed whether the county or state is responsible for removing or relocating signs near the city corporate limits; one member said a 60 mph sign appears just beyond work recently done near a mobile‑home park and questioned its placement relative to the city boundary.
Council established a July 21, 2026 public hearing on the proposed Chapter 140 amendments. No public testimony on the subject was recorded at the July 7 meeting.
