Mamaroneck board approves routine contracts, fee updates and a town animal-welfare donation fund

The Town Board moved through a slate of administrative and budget items at its May 4 work session, approving routine contracts, fee changes, and local governance steps.
Procurement and contracts: The board awarded contract TA 26-2A for reflectorized pavement markings and striping for 2026–2027 to Metro Express Services Inc., authorizing the town administrator to execute the agreement for an amount not to exceed $18,700 for both contract years. The board also approved telematic fire department claims certified by Chief Alex Rapp totaling $25,628.49, including a $13,000 invoice for firefighter recruit training academy costs; that payment was approved on roll call.
Fees and permits: Staff (Ally) described a rollback of a recently added fee for block parties to avoid an inequitable overlap with event rules, and modest additions to building-department fees for plan revisions and for missed inspections. The updated fee schedule was adopted effective immediately.
Administrative changes and hearings: The board approved a temporary sign request for Ferndale Wine & Liquors and directed the town attorney to draft a code amendment to assign temporary-sign permitting authority to the Building Department rather than the Town Board. The board also set public hearings for the garbage-district incinerator demolition bond and for a proposed local law to reduce air-conditioning unit side-yard setbacks to five feet; the hearings were scheduled for the May 20, 2026 meeting.
Animal welfare: Pursuant to a recent amendment of New York State Agriculture & Markets law, the board established a town Animal Welfare Donation Fund to collect voluntary donations when licensing dogs and designated the New Rochelle Humane Society as the beneficiary; the resolution was made retroactive to April 15, 2026.
Budget and appointments: The board authorized a capital budget amendment to cover the town’s share of higher-than-anticipated costs for the Kensigo Stormwater Reservoir (project estimate rose from roughly $900,000 to over $1.2 million; the town’s share was said to be about $200,000 and an additional $33,000 was requested). The board also reappointed Lynette C. to the Library Board for a five-year term expiring May 31, 2031.
Throughout the session board members praised staff during Public Service Recognition Week and highlighted the success of recent compost giveaways and community events. The next regular board meeting is set for May 20, 2026.
