Council approves Budget Amendment No. 6, equipment purchases and several contracts

Kim, a city staffer presenting the amendment, said the package includes $32,000 in mowing equipment funded by auction proceeds; insurance proceeds of $16,009.94 to repair an excavator and $26,528 to repair a bucket truck for Public Works; a $6,200 transfer from services to supplies in Parks and Recreation; and $215,000 for drainage projects and right-of-way supplies. Kim also reported insurance receipts of $225,008.85 related to the fire department’s training facility and described a grant for preliminary engineering for three railroad projects (the transcript’s amount for that grant was unclear).
After discussion, councilmembers approved the amendment by motion.
On related items the council: approved demolition of 843 South Green Street; authorized recording lot-mowing liens for listed addresses; kept a professional services contract with HDR on the table; authorized Tupelo Police Department officers to use department uniform, service weapon and vehicle while performing private security at Walmart locations inside city limits; and approved emergency services work with Snyder Electric for the Tupelo Aquatic Center (subject to legal review of design parameters). Other routine approvals included CVB minutes and travel, surplus items, a sole-source procurement for Schweitzer Engineering Products, and change orders for bridge and sewer projects.
