The Town Board on May 4 authorized two separate design efforts for longtime town recreation facilities at Hammocks Park.
First, the board approved awarding a design and engineering services agreement to IB Story Incorporated for the ice rink compressor and refrigeration system in an amount not to exceed $122,900. Staff said the existing compressor has been undersized since installation and that the new design will "right size" the equipment to support existing users and program needs. "It's hard to have an ice rink without ice," the Chair observed during discussion.
Second, the board approved phases A and B of a planning and design proposal from Weston & Sampson Architects to begin geotechnical investigation and preliminary planning for the Hammocks Pool Complex. Staff explained the work is intended as initial data collection—site subsurface investigation and feasibility—funded by a grant that expires in October; the scope will not determine the final pool design but will inform subsequent design decisions.
Board members emphasized the limited, early-stage scope for the pool work and the importance of understanding subsurface conditions before making final design choices. The town will authorize execution of agreements for both projects and move forward with procurement as required by the contracts.
Next steps: staff will execute the IB Story services agreement and proceed with geotechnical data collection under Weston & Sampson's phased proposal; timing for construction or further design phases was not set.
