Board approves $15,000 contribution for Emelin Theatre concert in the park and authorizes beer-and-wine sales
Summary
Trustees added and approved a $15,000 village contribution to the Emelin Theatre's 2026 Concert in the Park and authorized the Emelin to pursue an extension of its liquor license to sell beer and wine at the July event; both additions to the legislative agenda passed by voice vote.

The board voted on May 16 to add two items from the work session to the legislative agenda and then approved both measures: a $15,000 village commitment to the Emelin Theatre's Concert in the Park and authorization for the Emelin to sell beer and wine at the event, contingent on the theatre obtaining a liquor‑license extension.
A trustee described the package: the village contribution of $15,000 matches past years' commitments; village staff will run stage logistics while the Emelin provides sound and performance coordination. "...it's the $15,000 commitment, which is the same commitment we've had for the past few years to these joint concerts with the Emelin," a trustee said.
Board members moved, seconded and approved adding the items to the agenda and then approved execution of a contract with the Emelin Theatre and permission for on-site beer-and-wine sales; the meeting record shows these were passed by voice vote.
Why it matters: The concerts are community events that the village has helped underwrite in prior years. Authorizing alcohol service requires the Emelin to obtain the temporary licensing extension in time for the July performance date.
Next steps: The Emelin must apply for the license extension and finalize the contract; staff said approving the items now would give the theatre sufficient time for licensing steps.
