At the June 30 St. Marys City Council meeting the Director of Public Service and Safety, identified in the agenda as Mr. Fox, gave a series of operational updates, invited members to a wastewater treatment plant tour on Thursday at 5 p.m., and summarized recent capital and personnel developments.
Fox told council the treatment train was restored after repairs to a leaking pipe and staff do not anticipate further issues. He invited council members and others to tour the mill and the wastewater treatment plant; the tour was scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
On real‑estate and bidding matters, Fox reported that two residential lots (Sleepy Hollow and Market Road) had sold and closings are being processed with the law director's office. Farm parcels north of town will be rebid on July 2 at 5 p.m.; interested bidders will appear in person for a rebidding process that includes an opportunity to increase sealed bids and a subsequent verbal bid with the top two bidders. Fox noted the reserve price for those parcels will be $16,000 per acre.
Fox also addressed personnel changes: one engineer is departing and the city has hired two engineers in anticipation of movement. He described the city's approach to short‑term negative balances for particular funds, explaining staff will continue necessary operations while supplementals are prepared and presented to council for formal appropriation.
Council members asked clarifying questions about event logistics (Halloween parade routing) and about whether the refuse truck purchase was a lease or a straight purchase; Fox clarified it is a lease‑purchase, with lease payments applied toward ownership.
What happens next: the wastewater tour will proceed as scheduled if attendance warrants; farm parcels will be rebid July 2; personnel transitions will continue as planned and supplemental appropriations will be finalized as part of Ordinance 20 26 09.
