The council approved street closures and special-event permits for two community events.
Sherry Smith, representing Friends of the Farris and the Farris Theater, requested street closures for the 45th Mushroom Festival and said the parade route will match last year’s route; the request included relocating carnival rides and use of the City Hall parking lot for a car show. Councilor Ron Peterson moved approval and the council passed the permit 8-0.
Sharon Donat, representing the Richmond News and the Chamber of Commerce, requested closures for the America 250 family-friendly celebration scheduled for June 13, 2026, on N. College and W. North Main Streets, including music, food, games and a bike parade. The council approved the street closures and the special-event permit on a unanimous roll-call vote.
Both permits were approved with no recorded opposition; organizers indicated the events are intended to be family-friendly and to use the previously mapped parade and street-closure plans.
