Code committee tables review of broader property-maintenance code and asks members to review draft

The Code and Charter Review Committee opened a second agenda item on Sept. 17 to consider a proposed package of property-maintenance code topics—covering exterior structures, vacant structures, sidewalks and driveways, landscaping, rodent harborage, accessory structures, accumulation of trash/refuse, lighting/security, drainage/stormwater and outdoor storage—but elected to table detailed discussion until the next meeting.
Chair Dave Lyons said the draft pulls selected items from broader model codes and the committee agreed the package was too large for one meeting. The chair asked members to review the draft material before the next session; a motion to table the item until the committee could review was made and seconded and the motion carried.
The committee clarified the proposal is intended to cover both residential and commercial properties and staff agreed to research responsibilities for sidewalks and curbs (some streets and sidewalks are state-maintained). The town manager and staff agreed to provide clarifications on property lines and ownership records ahead of future review.
The item was tabled; committee members will return with comments at the next scheduled meeting.
