Dewey Beach commissioners discussed Aug. 15 several voluntary fundraising concepts to help close the gap on the new town hall project and reduce long-term debt. Town leaders proposed donor recognition features including engraved pavers in a 15-foot walkway, a donor wall in the meeting room, and artwork in the foyer.
The mayor described options and a fundraising goal of $250,000; he suggested 2,000 smaller engraved bricks at a lower donation level or fewer larger bricks. Commissioners favored starting with pavers and a donor wall but asked for a detailed communications plan, pricing levels and sample designs before approving a program. Commissioner Persinger said he preferred bringing a more developed plan to a vote rather than approving a broad concept at this meeting.
The council voted to table the fundraising proposal until the next meeting so staff can provide concrete design and communication materials and confirm timing relative to the town’s meeting schedule.
