Donald Harrison Jr., a saxophonist and director of the Louis Armstrong summer jazz camp, told BronxNet’s Open that his new project, called "Magic Touch," presents one song in 10 different musical styles and has been reaching listeners across jazz, soul, reggae and other formats.
Harrison said he directs the Louis Armstrong summer jazz camp and makes a point of teaching young, working musicians the skills needed for professional music careers. He described the new recording as an experiment in bringing diverse audiences together: a listener who hears a hip‑hop version might also encounter a jazz or reggae version and discover a new connection.
He announced a performance at The Pocket in New York on July 12, said he may pause the full Quantum Leap Music Festival this year because of a funder’s health problems, and described possible satellite or New Orleans shows as organizers work to return the festival next year.
