Superintendent reports plant repairs, day tank patch and influent pump due in October

Richmond’s plant superintendent reported a welded conveyor screw, plans to patch a day tank possibly with a reinforcing steel ring, and that a new influent pump is scheduled to ship Oct. 3 and arrive for installation the second week of October.
In the Superintendent’s report on Aug. 18, the Richmond Water and Sewer Commission heard several operational updates from the plant superintendent (S6), including recent repairs and upcoming equipment deliveries.
S6 said crews removed a broken inclined conveyor screw and had it welded by Jiro's within 24 hours, costing $123. "We pulled the inclined conveyor screw out. It snapped in half... We had it over to Juros. They welded it for us, and we had it back in within 24 hours," S6 said.
On the day tank, engineers recommended a full interior patch and possibly installing a steel ring around the top of the tank to restore strength and allow re-bolting of the top flange. S6 described the planned work and said the plant can continue to operate while the patching plan proceeds.
Filter tanks and aeration work: S6 said new filter valves arrived and await electrician wiring so both filter tanks can be online. For aeration and digester diffuser piping, staff collected three quotes; engineers recommended a targeted PVC patch for cracked PVC lines rather than full replacement because full repair quotes were substantially higher.
On major equipment, S6 provided a timeline for the influent pump replacement: "the new influent pump that we ordered is going to be shipped October 3, and that will be shipped in the United States. So we'll have it the 2nd week of October, and then we'll start putting that in." The Commission noted the pump manufacturer no longer exists and agreed that assessing pump condition and contingency planning should be on a future agenda.
S6 also said staff is pursuing a candidate to fill a pending position at the plant and described routine maintenance and monitoring tasks that are unresolved.
The Commission did not take formal action on the repairs at the Aug. 18 meeting but agreed to add pump assessment and a discussion of reserve capacity to a future agenda.
