City plans public rollout of GovWell work-order system after staff training

Nederland — City staff provided an update on GovWell, the new work-order and permitting platform intended to let residents file and track requests for code enforcement, public works, permitting and inspections.
Public-works and permitting staff have been using GovWell since December 2025 for some functions; inspections/permitting began a soft launch in recent weeks. Staff reported a staged rollout to ensure departments can process work orders and avoid an unmanageable backlog if the public gets immediate access. IT and the city manager said the software can accept public submissions, and that the city must affirm workflows and train staff before opening the portal to all residents.
Residents told the council they had been told public access would be available earlier and urged the city to enable citizen self-reporting and address public-works complaints that do not appear in monthly reports. Staff acknowledged data-quality challenges as employees transition from paper records to electronic entry and pledged retraining, administrative support and a path to go live for public filing. The city manager set an internal target and commitments to pursue broader access with a preliminary public-go-live goal of September 1 and monthly roll-call updates until then.
Council discussed notifications, department routing and what fields will be public-facing. Staff said code enforcement can be turned on quickly; public-works workflows require more training. The city manager said he will return with status reports and that council will determine the degree of public visibility and confirmation once staff demonstrate consistent internal use.
