Hampton officials and volunteers celebrate downtown revival and events in Anthem

Ross Hallwood, a Hampton city council member, told the Woodbury County outreach meeting that Anthem (Hampton) is a town of under 500 people with more than 25 active businesses on Main Street, a recently completed phase of underground electrical work, a revised water tower on an annual maintenance schedule and intersection upgrades on Farm-to-Market Road D-38.
"We've got this beautiful structure down there now covering the grandstands," Hallwood said as he described a grant-funded cover for the ballpark grandstand and other grant and private-donation-supported improvements. He cited the Maiden Town Market as an annual event that draws an estimated 5,000 visitors over a weekend and noted active volunteer organizations, including the fire department and Legion Post 389.
Amy McFarland of the Anthem Community Development Corporation described ACDC as "a group of about 10 volunteers" that organizes family events, the town carnival and flower-pot sponsorships and devotes roughly $10,000 a year to one small project such as ballpark improvements. She said the group's focus is attracting and retaining families and shoppers to support local businesses.
Both Hallwood and McFarland encouraged visitors to support local shops and attend upcoming events; county supervisors toured Main Street businesses earlier in the day and thanked local leaders for hosting.
