The Woodbury County Board approved a resolution to vacate an excess right-of-way south of Newton Path, returning land that county staff said is no longer used as a public road and that currently bisects private properties.
Laura Sievers, the county's secondary roads engineer as identified on the agenda, explained that the county moved Osceola Avenue in the 1960s and retained the old right-of-way, which cuts through private parcels. She told the board the property owners requested the old alignment be vacated so they could reclaim the land. "So this is a resolution for the vacation of the excess right-of-way," Sievers said while summarizing the backup materials.
Nut graf: The board has vacated similar unused alignments in the past and moved to approve the resolution as presented. The motion to adopt the resolution was made, seconded and approved 5–0.
The chair asked if there were questions; none were raised that altered the staff recommendation. The board approved the resolution and moved on to the next agenda item.
