Agency official (Speaker 1) presented a campus redevelopment plan that would add multiple competition-size fields, two stadiums, a 9-lane track and 10 tennis courts while reserving green space for community use.
"We absolutely want community space," Agency official (Speaker 1) said, adding that the design balances public access with student safety and competitive scheduling. District staff said Panther Plaza would host small community events such as movie nights and that a continuous walking path would loop around baseball fields and the football complex.
Staff emphasized infrastructure work to support circulation and safety: fencing and site reconfiguration would allow additional soccer fields, separate vehicle circulation from pedestrian areas and preserve areas that could be converted to parking if demand requires it. District staff said a traffic study for Huntsville Road is under way and that the plan would be released for public review before final approval.
Board members asked about maintenance and long-term costs of turf and other features. Agency official (Speaker 1) acknowledged ongoing upkeep costs for turf and water features and said storage and equipment rooms will be incorporated into the track and field complex.
The presenter gave a project timeline with a target completion in 2027 and said staff will return with refined plans after public comment and the traffic study. The board did not take a formal vote on the design at the meeting.
