The Charlestown City commission elected Derek Combs president for 2026 and approved the meeting agenda’s amended claims, which included two pay applications totaling $206,812.37 for the Madison Street Green Alley.
The meeting opened with a roll call and the Pledge of Allegiance. After nominations, a motion to elect Derek Combs as president was made, seconded and approved by voice vote. Commissioners likewise approved nominations for vice president and secretary and voted to accept the minutes of the Dec. 2, 2025 regular meeting.
During the claims review, a Wheatley Group representative asked the commission to add two pay applications for the Madison Street Green Alley. The representative stated: "So this pay request 1 and 2 for $206,812.37," and the chair moved to add the items to the claims. The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
The commission took similar procedural actions by voice vote to approve routine business items. No roll-call tallies beyond verbal 'aye' votes were recorded in the transcript. The meeting adjourned after scheduling an executive session to consult with a developer on Jan. 15 at 6 p.m.
What happens next: Staff and the city’s engineer will continue to process claims and pending pay applications; the commission scheduled an executive session to hear the developer’s plans and requested staff prepare required public notices.
