The Morrison County Board of Adjustment voted unanimously June 23 to approve a variance allowing Alex Lange to develop a newly created lot in the north half of the southeast quarter in Two Rivers Township despite soils that cannot support a Type I septic.
Staff entered Sections 1301.12 and 1501.4 of the Morrison County Land Use Control Ordinance, aerial photos and site photos and summarized the criteria. Board members asked about site conditions and whether wetlands or swampy ground were present to the west; Lange said there is swamp to the west but confirmed the proposed building site is suitable for a slab‑on‑grade house. Board member Clint Kathrein said the parcel is not highly productive agricultural land and that there is sufficient room for the planned dwelling.
Greg Colome moved to approve the variance; the motion was seconded by Clint Kathrein and carried with all members present voting in favor. No public comments were recorded on the application.
The approved variance will allow the applicant to build on the lot despite the absence of soils suitable for a Type I septic system; the record does not specify whether an alternative septic design or holding tank will be required. The public hearing was closed later in the meeting and the board approved minutes and adjourned.
