Froid council approves minutes and claims; residents press for more streetlights and a generator grant

The Froid Town Council met Feb. 10, 2025 and formalized routine business, approved payments, and heard resident concerns about lighting and drainage.
Mayor Sheri Crain called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Council reviewed minutes from the Jan. 20, 2025 regular meeting; Council member Gregg Labatte moved to approve the minutes as read and Laurie Young seconded; the minutes were approved (motion carried).
The council reviewed delinquent water, sewer and garbage accounts and agreed to distribute door hangers and mail letters to those listed. Mayor Crain suggested reviewing the town policy on whether utilities are placed in a renter’s name or remain in the owner’s name.
On financials, Council member Tyler Harris moved to pay the February claims; Gale Strandlund seconded the motion and it carried. No roll-call tallies were recorded in the minutes.
During other business, resident Penny Ryder asked why there are not more streetlights on 1st Ave S between Gregg Labatte’s shop and Main Street; Mayor Crain said she would inspect the area and reach out to MDU to investigate whether an additional light is warranted. Ryder said she currently pays for an extra streetlight on her property.
Mayor Crain asked council members to bring “wish list” ideas for town needs; she reiterated a priority for funding a generator for the Community Center. Clerk LeAnn Johnson said she has looked into grants from MDU Resources and AARP. Scott Westlund of Sheridan Electric asked to be included in correspondence about the MDU Resources grant application. Council also discussed streets needing repair; Russ Corbell raised drainage concerns at the Main Street intersection near the Old Bank building. With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:20 p.m.; the next regular meeting is March 10, 2025.
