Froid council approves $700 monthly increase to Bowker Sanitation contract

The Town of Froid on Aug. 26 voted to increase its monthly payment to Bowker Sanitation by $700, citing rising operating costs and parts shortages that have affected the hauler since the COVID pandemic.
Allen Bowker told the council that costs "have increased drastically" and that parts shortages for trucks since the pandemic have raised his operating pressure. Clerk LeAnn Johnson provided income statements for the Garbage Fund from the previous two years and told council the fund could absorb roughly $700 per month without requiring an immediate increase in consumer rates.
Council Member Gregg Labatte moved to increase the monthly payment by $700 effective immediately and to revisit the contract after one year; Council Member Tyler Harris seconded the motion and it carried. Allen Bowker said he would ultimately like the increase to be closer to $832 per month but said he would be flexible based on what the town fund can support.
The council did not record a roll-call tally in the minutes; the motion is recorded as carried. The council will review the contract again after 12 months to determine whether further adjustment is needed.
