Froid fire department outlines plans for fire hall addition, says it will seek grants

Blake Murray of the Froid Fire Department asked the Town Council on Aug. 26 to consider approving an addition to the town’s fire hall to bring apparatus stored off-site back onto the property and to provide indoor training and a meeting room. "We are made up of young, ambitious members," Murray said, and an addition would improve the department’s capacity to respond and train.

Cam Friede, also speaking for the department, told the council the department "is not asking the Town of Froid to cover the cost of the project" and that it has sought help from Froid School Superintendent Steve Mahue to identify grant opportunities. Friede said the department needs more time to obtain contractor quotes that will define the scope and cost of the work.

Mayor Sheri Crain and Council Member Tyler Harris expressed support for the project during the meeting. Crain said she expects the community to be generous with fundraising, noting the public’s past support when the community center was built. Harris said council members have been on board with expansion plans but were awaiting more detailed project information before committing support.

The department and council agreed the next step is to gather additional quotes and return with a clearer picture of costs, funding sources and timelines. No formal appropriation or town-funded commitment was made at the meeting.
