Carbon County adopts Fair Housing resolution for FY2026 CDBG program

The Carbon County Board of Commissioners on June 18 unanimously adopted a Fair Housing Notice and Resolution required for the county’s FY2026 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.
Resolution #26-021 names the county’s entitlement communities — Franklin Township; Jim Thorpe Borough; Lansford Borough; Lehighton Borough; Mahoning Township; and Palmerton Borough — and restates the county’s policy that discrimination in housing on the basis of race, color, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), national origin, religion, familial status, or disability is prohibited under the federal Fair Housing Act and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act. The resolution also lists additional state protected classes (age and ancestry) and commits the county to publicizing the local fair housing officer and complaint process, conducting at least one fair housing activity annually, and using the fair housing logo on housing‑program materials.
Commissioner Wayne E. Nothstein moved to approve the resolution; Chairman Michael J. Sofranko seconded the motion. The board also authorized advertisement of the Fair Housing Notice as required for the FY2026 CDBG program. Both motions were approved by the two commissioners present (Commissioner Rocky C. Ahner was recorded as absent).
