The Fond du Lac School District Board of Education voted 7–0 to appoint John Saint Peter as the district’s independent hearing officer for student expulsion proceedings for the 2026–27 school year.
Mr. Godfrey moved the appointment under a motion referencing Wisconsin statute; the motion delegated authority to the superintendent to arrange other independent hearing officers as needed. Superintendent Steinbeth explained the district had previously used another hearing officer who has since retired and characterized Saint Peter as an experienced attorney who has represented the district in other matters. "This is the first time we'll have Mr. Saint Peter doing that for us," Steinbeth said, and she described the hearing officer’s role in hearing both the individual and district sides and providing a recommendation to the board.
The board approved the motion by roll call 7–0. The appointment covers expulsions for the 2026–27 school year and leaves the superintendent authority to arrange alternate hearing officers when conflicts or discrepancies arise.
