Statham City mayor and council enter executive session on personnel matter; clerk says no votes were taken

Statham City’s mayor and city council held a special called meeting and moved into an executive session to discuss personnel matters, the council clerk said.

A council member moved that the body enter an executive session "to discuss and deliberate upon the appointment, employment, compensation, hiring, or disciplinary action of a public officer or employee," and another member seconded. The chair called for a show-of-hands vote to approve the motion.

The clerk read a prepared statement saying the council had adjourned into executive session "to discuss matters exempt from the Open Meetings Act, specifically to discuss and deliberate upon the appointment, employment, compensation, hiring, disciplinary action, or dismissal, or periodic evaluation, or rating of a public officer." The clerk added, "The executive session did not involve the receipt of any evidence or any argument on any personnel matters relative to a decision made or appealed." The clerk also said a copy of the affidavit and resolution will be included with the minutes.

After the closed session, a member moved to come out of executive session, another seconded, and the chair again called for a show-of-hands vote. The meeting concluded after a final motion to adjourn that was seconded and carried by a show of hands.
