Higgins family seeks to buy two county forest parcels; committee postpones decision

Committee members discussed the formal process for selling county forest land, which they said can take six months to a year and requires approval by the Committee, the County Board, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin. Members emphasized that state rules require the sale to provide a benefit to the state, not only the county.
Following discussion, Jordan Spacek moved and Patricia Stephan seconded a motion to postpone the agenda item to the next meeting while staff and the committee research the statutory and procedural requirements; the motion carried.
Next steps: the committee directed staff to research the requirements for selling county forest land and to report back at a subsequent meeting.
