Price County committee approves timber sale awards and orders survey before cutting

The Price County Forestry & Parks / Buildings & Grounds Committee approved timber sale bid awards for 20 of 21 tracts and authorized a boundary survey ahead of scheduled harvests at its May 5 meeting.
The timber sale awards were presented by Forestry staff, who reported that 21 tracts were offered and all but one sold. The committee heard that prices are lower than last year because market supply is higher while demand is lower, and that access to individual sale sites affects final sale prices. On a motion by Jordan Spacek, seconded by Michelle Drobnik, the committee approved the timber sale bid awards as presented.
The committee also voted to hire a survey for County land at T38N R1W Section 4 to clarify county and private property lines before timber is cut. The motion to proceed with the survey was made by Michelle Drobnik and seconded by Jordan Spacek and passed.
Forestry staff noted the department manages about 92,000 acres of county forest and oversees parks, trailheads, ATV trails and dams. Parks work reported for the season included turning on campground water, state contract water sampling, cutting potentially hazardous trees, and installing ADA-compliant surfacing and rubber chips at the playground in Solberg. Well testing was underway; campgrounds were to open the Friday before Memorial Day and bathrooms are scheduled to be installed at Big Falls in July.
The committee approved Forestry & Parks vouchers for April 2026 totaling $50,071.61 as part of the consent actions at the meeting.
Next steps: staff will proceed with the survey for T38N R1W Section 4 and implement awarded timber sale contracts subject to the usual administrative and permitting steps.
