Supervisors approve $21,265 HVAC alternate for administrative area; board notes additional electrical costs

The Osceola County Board of Supervisors on June 9 approved a contractor-recommended HVAC alternate for the county's jail/administration project, accepting an option that staff said reduces the cost to roughly $21,265 while noting there will likely be additional electrical work.
Project staff said the original engineer scope for redesigning HVAC after deletion of the boiler had a price near $65,000. Working directly with the contractor, staff described an intermediate bid around $46,095 and said they had identified a reduced alternate using some existing ductwork and equipment for about $21,265.
"We got it from 65 to 45 to 21," the project manager said, urging the board to approve the reduced alternate while noting there will be additional electrical work and possible replacement of a nonfunctioning IT-room condensing unit estimated at about $4,500.
Board members discussed budget timing. Staff said the work could be charged to the project, or possibly paid from available general funds; claims are paid later this month, and staff said there should be room in the current fiscal-year claims schedule. The board also discussed waiting for an absent member to confirm but ultimately moved forward.
Action taken: A motion to approve option 2 (approximately $21,265) with the understanding there will be additional electrical work passed on a voice vote. Staff said they will bring a separate proposal for the electrical work when available and that some items could be paid from the sheriff's budget if necessary.
The board also received a monthly invoices update: staff reported invoices for general construction, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical for a total of $291,690.60 for the reporting period, with modest interest income added to the project.
Next steps: Staff will issue purchase orders and proceed with equipment orders and scheduling while preparing any separate electrical proposals for board review.
