Summary

At the Sept. 2 meeting, longtime resident and former commission member Irene Buckley urged the Environmental Advisory Committee to revive a well-water testing program that she said the commission ran previously. Buckley said the prior program was offered at no cost to the municipality, with residents paying a minimal fee and the option to submit results to the commission, and she asked that the program be offered again.
Buckley also questioned the township’s single-stream recycling policy, asking why Green Township does not use source-separated recycling as some nearby municipalities do. Committee Secretary Gwen Santos responded that Green Township is under contract with Blue Diamond Disposal and that single-stream recycling is the contractor’s policy; she offered Buckley Blue Diamond’s contact information. Matt Fox advised Buckley that if she wants a change in recycling collection the proper route is to request placement on the Township Committee agenda because contract decisions are made by the Township Committee.
Why it matters: a well-water testing program would affect homeowners relying on private wells, and recycling collection methods can shape diversion rates and local compliance with waste-management goals.
Next steps: No formal action was taken at the meeting. Buckley may follow up directly with Blue Diamond Disposal or request to be placed on a Township Committee agenda to seek changes to contract terms.
