Green Township approves special permit for alcohol at Green Township Day; Committeewoman opposes

The Green Township Committee voted July 21 to grant the Recreation Advisory Committee a special permit to allow consumption of alcoholic beverages at Green Township Day on Sept. 6, 2025.
Deputy Clerk Patty DeClesis told the Committee the event has been rescheduled to Sept. 6 from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. The Recreation Committee added music (Snake Oil Willie scheduled to perform 3:00–6:00 p.m.) and requested permission to have alcohol served in a confined area described in the packet as a 'Beer Garden.' The vendor, Czigmeister, will be responsible for checking attendees’ driver's licenses to verify patrons are 21 or older, and the Deputy Clerk summarized applicable Alcoholic Beverage Control guidelines for the event.
The Committee approved Resolution 2025-126 granting the special permit. The motion (moved by Michael Rose and seconded by James DeYoung) passed with DeYoung, Rose and Mayor Virginia Raffay recorded as ayes and Margaret Phillips recorded as a no vote.
Minutes show logistics for the Beer Garden and vendor responsibilities will be worked out following the Committee’s authorization. The Township packet includes the Recreation Committee’s proposed budget line items for Green Township Day and other fall/winter recreation events.
