Northvale Board approves rehires, teacher assignments and multiple vendor contracts

The Northvale Board of Education on May 13 approved a slate of personnel, curriculum and finance items to prepare the district for the 2026–27 school year.
On a motion by Mrs. Horgan, seconded by Mrs. Sposa, the board voted to approve personnel items P‑1 through P‑18, which included re‑hiring tenured and non‑tenured staff, re‑appointing 12‑month secretarial and custodial employees, confirming supervisory positions (including the reappointment of Susan Dykstra as Business Administrator/Board Secretary) and authorizing extra‑curricular stipends. The motion passed on a roll call of four yes votes and one absence.
The board also approved CI‑1 (teacher assignments for 2026–27), covering preschool through grade 8 placements and special education positions, on a motion by Mrs. Sposa and seconded by Mr. Sullivan. The vote was recorded as four yes, zero no, one absent.
Under administration the board approved A‑1 (HIB investigation results discussed in closed session on April 30) and A‑2 (the 2024–2025 District and School Grade Report for HIB Grades). Those items were approved on a motion by Mrs. Banzaca and seconded by Mrs. Sposa with the same 4–0 recorded vote and one absence.
Finance items F‑1 through F‑12 also carried. Highlights include: appointment of the law firm Fogarty, Hara, LaPira & Cherry, LLC as board counsel (hourly rates listed in the resolution); appointment of Suplee, Clooney & Company LLC as district auditors for $37,350; appointment of Dr. Nancy Rothenberg as school physician for $5,000; engagement of Phoenix Advisors as continuing disclosure agent and independent registered municipal advisor for $1,600; approval of a three‑year Into Reading contract with HMH Education Company for $34,660.64; and software and subscription renewals for student information and accounting systems. The board acknowledged monthly disbursements, including a May bill list of $196,555.91 and payroll amounts noted in the finance packet.
A facilities item acknowledging a May 5, 2026 fire drill (BG‑1) was approved as presented.
