Bourne approves $2.77 million Chapter 90 request to pave Shore Road and nearby collectors

Slick told the board the town’s Chapter 90 balance stands at $4,188,011 and that a FY27 allocation included $930,946. He described a seven‑year pavement plan, noting the town has roughly 99 miles of roads and an estimated $12 million worth of maintenance needed to preserve all town streets. For FY27 the department recommended milling and paving Shore Road (excluding the section adjacent to a bridge slated for major work), plus McGansett Road, Squatig Harbor Road and Red Brook Harbor Road; he also asked for $430,000 for a Washburn Street drainage project.
“We have 99 miles of roads, and the average road rating is 72.97,” Slick said, summarizing the pavement‑management program’s findings and the department’s approach to prioritizing collectors and arterials. He warned that pavement-management cost estimates exclude drainage, line painting and police details, and offered alternative surface treatments — including rubber chip seal — for low‑traffic roads.
After questions about timing, traffic impacts and sidewalk scope, the Select Board voted to approve the requested Chapter 90 expenditures and move forward with the proposed FY27 paving program.
What’s next: DPW will coordinate fall construction timing, estimated detours for Shore Road work and finalize contract scopes and public notifications.
