Pecos council approves Maxey Ball Fields contract, seeks full build-out costs

Pecos City Council on July 9 approved Resolution 26-07-02R authorizing the city to enter a contract with Energy Systems Group, not to exceed $494,759.44, for reconstruction and ADA improvements to Maxey Ball Fields, including new irrigation, sports lighting, fencing, bleachers, a concession building and a permanent restroom.
Nicole Ferini, assistant city manager, described the contract as a design-build procurement obtained through Sourcewell and said the contract amount covers management and architecture fees to expedite delivery; she told the council the city has part of the project budgeted this year and would finish funding the project in next year’s budget cycle.
"This is really specific to the ballpark area," Ferini said, outlining irrigation, undergrounding overhead electrical lines, new bleachers, restrooms and ADA upgrades. Council members thanked staff for the expedited approach but pressed for additional detail on the total build-out cost. One member voted no, saying he supported the project but wanted a clearer estimate of the full price before committing.
Council asked staff to bring the contractor, Energy Systems Group, to a future meeting to give regular updates and to present a more detailed budget showing the planned build-out and the funding sources that will make up any gap.
What happens next: Staff will request a full build-out estimate and invite Energy Systems Group to present cost breakdowns and grant or funding options at a future council work session or meeting.
