The Bourne Select Board approved a Chapter 90 funding request on July 7 that would allocate $2.765 million for Shore Road and adjacent collector paving, plus funding requests for bridge design and a drainage project in Sagamore Beach.
Public Works Director Matt Slick told the board the town's Chapter 90 balance stands at approximately $4.19 million, including recent supplemental and fair-share additions. For FY27 the department requested $2,765,170 to mill and pave Shore Road (excluding the same-bridge segment planned for major reconstruction), $297,000 to cover bridge project design engineering costs and $430,000 to fund a Washburn Street drainage project that is fully designed.
Slick said the town has a 7-year outlook that prioritizes collector and arterial roads and uses a pavement-management program to guide cost-benefit choices. He also discussed rubber chip seal as a lower-cost option for some roads, noting it can be noisy and unpopular in dense residential areas but is effective for extending pavement life on select segments.
The board moved and approved the Chapter 90 spending plan by voice vote. Director Slick said work would be scheduled for the fall to avoid summer traffic and that staff will coordinate detours, police details and public notices.
Next steps: DPW will proceed with contractor scheduling and return with implementation details, including timelines, traffic-control plans and any required funding adjustments.
