School board approves AB 1200 disclosure and tentative agreements with teachers and classified staff

The Santa Barbara Unified School Board approved the AB 1200 fiscal disclosure and then voted to accept tentative agreements covering the Santa Barbara Teachers Association (SBTA), the California School Employees Association (CSEA) and unrepresented employees on June 23.
CBO Conrad Tedeschi summarized the AB 1200 report, which compiles the projected costs of negotiated settlements. He said the SBTA tentative agreement includes a $1,500 increase to each cell on the certificated salary schedule and that the combined salary-and-benefit impact for SBTA is about $1.4 million; CSEA increases total roughly $1.8 million; and adjustments for unrepresented employees total about $175,000 including benefits.
Ken Rivas, representing classified staff, urged board approval and praised the negotiation process. Tedeschi told trustees the county reviewed the AB 1200 disclosure for accuracy before it was posted.
The board first approved the required AB 1200 form and then approved the tentative agreements and related compensation adjustments. Trustees said the approvals were necessary to implement negotiated settlements while continuing to monitor the overall budget and multiyear impact.
