Board appoints Matthew Brown as Floyd Central athletic director

The New Albany-Floyd County Schools board unanimously approved Matthew Brown as Floyd Central High School’s next athletic director on June 18 after a recommendation from district leadership.
Dr. Madison introduced Mr. Ihuzin, principal of Floyd Central, who presented Brown’s credentials. Dr. Madison said he recommended “Matthew Brown to serve as our next athletic director at Floyd Central High School,” citing Brown’s 27 years in education, coaching and school athletics administration.
Board members moved and seconded the appointment and the board voted 7-0 to confirm Brown. Chair then congratulated Brown, who told the board he was “born and raised in Floyd County” and is a graduate of the New Albany-Floyd County Schools; he said his family are district graduates as well.
Brown outlined priorities for the program, emphasizing character and continuity with what he called the “Highlander way,” and said he would focus on sportsmanship, organization and recognition as core values. "As athletic director, I will continue Floyd Central's long tradition of winning, and I would be doing it the right way," Brown said. He added that he looks forward to supporting students and families and to being "associated with Floyd Central High School."
The appointment is effective immediately; Brown will fill the athletic director role and start coordinating coaches and facilities work tied to the district's broader facilities program.
