The Hainesport Township Board of Education voted on Feb. 22 to hire Ramon Santiago as principal for grades 5–8 and approved several district plans and contracts, the board said.
Board president Jason Cardonick opened the meeting by reading the district mission: "The Mission of Hainesport Township School District is to provide a safe, supportive, and challenging educational environment in an atmosphere that enables each child to develop intellectually, emotionally, physically, and socially in a fiscally responsible manner." After routine business and a closed session, the board moved through personnel and finance items.
Why it matters: The principal appointment and the approved planning and contracts shape building leadership, curriculum oversight and future facility work for the district. The ELL three‑year plan and the Major Plan Amendment are steps required by the New Jersey Department of Education for long‑range facilities changes and program planning.
The board approved Ramon Santiago’s appointment as principal (grades 5–8), a full‑time position at an annualized salary of $90,000 prorated, with an expected start date of March 24, 2022 or sooner. The personnel action was included in a broader human resources packet that also ratified aides, leaves and pay for extra duties; the board recorded the motion and subsequent roll call as carried.
On curriculum and services, the board approved the district’s HIB (Harassment, Intimidation, Bullying) self‑assessment for 2020–2021 and adopted Res. #21‑22‑16, Hainesport’s ELL three‑year plan. The board also authorized RYEBREAD to submit bathroom alteration plans for rooms 102 and 104 and to file a Major Plan Amendment to the district’s Long‑Range Facilities Plan with the New Jersey Department of Education.
On finance and facilities, the board accepted routine monthly reports and certifications for January 2022 and approved a contract with GPRS for up to $5,400 to scan underground utilities on roughly 20 acres of school property to support planning and design work. Several field trips and student activity/cafeteria reports were also approved.
All formal actions reported on the agenda were recorded as carried during roll calls documented in the minutes. Several items (minutes approvals, Superintendent’s routine authorizations, personnel hires, ELL plan adoption, RYEBREAD submissions, and the GPRS contract) were presented as separate motions and approved by the board.
What’s next: The Major Plan Amendment will be submitted to the New Jersey Department of Education for review, and the newly hired principal’s start date is listed as March 24, 2022 (or sooner). The board indicated routine follow‑ups for personnel clearances and required state approvals for facilities work.
