The Hainesport Township Board of Education on Sept. 21, 2021 approved a slate of routine but consequential administrative and financial items, including several out-of-district student placements with sizable tuition costs, personnel appointments and two vendor contracts.
Superintendent Joseph R. Corn told the board the district had received staff and community support: library specialist Tricina Beebe was recognized with the NJASL 2021 President’s Award and the PTO donated a new sign for the school. The board also heard a demonstration of the district’s redesigned website and the new Hainesport School mobile app.
In consent votes the board approved multiple out-of-district placements for the 2021–22 school year. The largest listed placement was with Y.A.L.E., with tuition recorded at $118,315.80 for the term July 6, 2021–June 30, 2022. Other approved placements included contracts with Moorestown Township Public Schools ($40,398.00 for the school year plus a $3,800.00 ESY charge) and two placements with the Burlington County Special Services School District (BCSSSD) at $45,887.00 and $43,336.00 respectively.
The board also approved personnel and human-resources items. Tracey Huster was designated the district’s Homeless Liaison for 2021–22. The board ratified payments for additional summer and overtime hours for several staff members and confirmed the hiring of Samantha Swal as a special-education teacher effective Sept. 1, 2021. The meeting’s agenda listed a full slate of extracurricular appointments, including varsity coaches and club advisors at the stipends shown in the agenda.
On finance and facilities business, Finance Committee Chair Peter Scarpati presented the Board Secretary’s and Treasurer’s reports and recommended bill payments. The board renewed the Waste Management contract for 2021–22 at no increase and approved an OnCourse contract with a $1,307 increase (a 3% rise over prior-year costs). The board also approved PTO facility-use requests for fall events and a Nov. 19 band and choir field trip to Rancocas Valley Regional High School.
Technology Committee Chair Keith Peacock was absent; Kristin Jakubowski reported in his place that 20 new smartboards were scheduled to arrive the following day. The board recorded roll-call votes on the personnel and financial consent items; the motions carried as shown in the meeting minutes.
The meeting adjourned at approximately 7:27 p.m. The Board listed Oct. 11, 2021 as an upcoming in-service day for teachers.
