Whitley County commissioners approve emergency UTV funding, update salary ordinance and appoint new County Holding Corporation member

Whitley County commissioners approved three routine but consequential items at their July meeting: funding for an emergency-management utility terrain vehicle (UTV), a set of changes to the county salary ordinance, and an appointment to the County Holding Corporation.
Brandon, the county emergency management representative, told the council the UTV request had been discussed at the previous meeting and that “nothing has changed…this is the same thing we discussed in the last meeting” and that the current appearance was “just a formality” to meet timing requirements. The council moved and seconded the appropriation and the chair said the motion carried with the members present.
Tiffany Zalander walked the council through the proposed personnel changes in Ordinance 2026-06, including retitling an exemption deputy to “tax deputy 2,” converting a part-time transport officer to full time, changing one deputy to deputy sergeant, and adding two part-time security positions. The council moved, seconded and approved Ordinance 2026-06 unanimously.
Commissioner Rob reported the board appointed Robin Lancaster to the County Holding Corporation seat left vacant after the death of John McPherson. Rob described the appointment as filling the county’s representative seat on that board.
The council also approved the minutes from the June 15 meeting; the chair noted two abstentions by Councilmen Longwell and Weaver. No dollar amounts for the UTV appropriation were stated on the record and the motion was treated as an item required by timing rules rather than a new policy.
Next steps: the budget-related items will be reflected in forthcoming financial paperwork and the appointments will be effective immediately per the council’s action.
