Rolfe council approves consent agenda, multiple building permits and accepts April financial report

The Rolfe City Council on May 11 approved its consent agenda and four building permits and accepted the April Clerk & Treasurer report. Mayor Stephanie Sindt convened the meeting at 5:30 p.m. at the community center; the council approved minutes from April meetings and routine bills after a roll-call vote.

The council voted to approve building permit #05-2026 to remove sidewalks at 305 and 307 River St., permit #06-2026 to install a cement slab at 901 Elm St., permit #07-2026 for a backyard fence at 200 Grant St., and permit #08-2026 for solar-panel installation at 900 Broad St. Motions and seconds recorded in the minutes included Shimon/Cox, Cox/Stewart, Shimon/Stewart and Stewart/Shimon; the motions carried as recorded.

Treasurer Sindergard presented the April financial report, which the council approved. The record lists General fund revenue of $64,179.89 with expenses of $22,111.37; other reported fund figures included Water expenses of $17,056.96 and Gas revenue of $39,113.74. The meeting packet included detailed payroll and vendor bills.

Administrative questions raised during the meeting included whether a citizen may clean up private property for compensation (the clerk said no, citing liability), and whether a building permit is required to place gravel for parking; the council asked the city attorney to clarify the latter. The clerk said requests to cut curbs for construction must be included on a building permit and that requests to block alleys for events will be placed on the next agenda.

The council also tabled purchase of a gas detector until the next meeting. The meeting adjourned at 7:05 p.m.
