The Ogdensburg Borough Board of Education on Aug. 20 approved multiple finance actions including acceptance of federal grants, approval of check registers and a maintenance reserve withdrawal.
The board approved the June 2024 check register covering checks 018332 through 040187 totaling $521,670.29 (F/F‑01) and the July 2024 check register (checks 0018408 through 040191) totaling $423,392.28 (F/F‑02). The board also accepted the Board Secretary's and Treasurer's monthly financial reports and the monthly transfer and Monthly Transfer Report to ensure no line items are over‑expended (F/F‑03 through F/F‑06).
Finance actions included a $35,000 withdrawal from the maintenance reserve to fund various district maintenance projects, specifically maintenance of univents, pneumatic controls and the district water softener (F/F‑07). The board approved facility‑use applications for community partners including YMCA before/aftercare and St. Thomas of Aquin religious education and authorized use by Girl Scout Troop 98274 and a Class of 2025 used clothing drive (F/F‑08 through F/F‑11).
The board accepted federal IDEA Basic funds totaling $85,128 (including $4,848 for salaries and $80,280 for OT/PT) and IDEA Preschool OT/PT funding of $3,727 (F/F‑12). It also accepted ESEA funds for 2024–25 including Title I‑A allocations of $25,577 for instructional supplies and $100 for materials, Title II‑A of $4,579 and Title IV‑A allocations described in the agenda (F/F‑13).
Quarterly account balances were presented: Activities $32,245.34, Athletics $2,930.14, Scholarship $61,009.32, Cafeteria $7,767.18 and Unemployment $88,500.41 (F/F‑14). MOTIONS for finance items were presented (e.g., by Mr. Mortensen and seconded by Mr. Gorsky) and the board recorded ayes from members in attendance.
Why it matters: the grant revenues and reserve withdrawal establish available resources for special education services, instructional supplies and facility repairs for the coming year; approval of check registers completes routine fiscal oversight.
Next steps: business office to process adopted transfers, post grant acceptance documentation, and proceed with authorized maintenance work.
